A compact, lightweight design that you'll want to take with you wherever you go

■ Compact and lightweight design for easy portability
The total length is approximately 151 mm and the weight is approximately 795 g.
While achieving the same constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 as the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S, it is approximately 7cm shorter and approximately 565g lighter.
You can now take it out and enjoy shooting more easily.

With a constant maximum aperture of F2.8, you can easily enjoy the medium to telephoto range.

■ Large bokeh produced by a constant maximum aperture of F2.8 and image quality produced by telephoto compression

With a focal length of 70-180mm and a constant maximum aperture of F2.8, a wide range of expression is possible.
Taking advantage of the large, soft bokeh produced by the f/2.8 aperture and the compression effect of the telephoto lens, which allows you to organize the background, you can take pictures that make the subject stand out. In addition, the image is soft when the aperture is wide open, and when the aperture is narrowed, the image is clear and has a high resolution that captures even the fine details.

■ Capture moving subjects sharply with fast shutter speeds even in dark places

By taking advantage of the bright maximum aperture, you can set a fast shutter speed while keeping the ISO sensitivity low.
In addition to being able to capture moving subjects during indoor sports without blur, it can also take clear photos with reduced noise even at twilight.

■ 70-180mm focal length covers the mid-telephoto to telephoto range

The 70-180mm focal length covers the medium telephoto to telephoto range, making it suitable for portraits and snapshots, as well as for photographing slightly distant subjects such as athletes during a game or pets running around.
Furthermore, with APS-C size/DX format, you can get an angle of view equivalent to 270mm* on the telephoto side.
*35mm size conversion.

By attaching a teleconverter*, you can enjoy super telephoto effects while keeping the lens compact and lightweight.

The focal length can be extended to 252mm with the Z TELECONVERTER TC-1.4x (sold separately), and to 360mm with the Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x (sold separately). Even when a teleconverter is attached, it delivers excellent imaging performance, allowing you to capture distant subjects larger and with sharper images.
*When a teleconverter is attached, depending on the subject, ambient brightness, and the position of the selected focus point, it may be difficult to focus using autofocus or the focus aid may flicker.

Get even closer with a minimum shooting distance of 0.27m and a maximum shooting magnification of 0.48x

■AF is possible when shooting close-ups at the shortest shooting distance
The NIKKOR Z 70-180mm f/2.8 is capable of AF even at the closest shooting distance.
You can also comfortably take close-up shots with a minimum shooting distance of 0.27m at the wide-angle end and 0.85m at the telephoto end.
When the optional Z TELECONVERTER TC-2.0x is attached, the maximum shooting magnification is 0.96x, approaching life-size.
Small subjects such as flowers can be captured in a soft and impressive manner by taking advantage of the large bokeh.
*When shooting a flat subject close to the minimum shooting distance near the wide-angle end and maximum aperture, image blurring may be observed at the periphery.
The blurring of the peripheral images can be improved by narrowing the aperture.

Fast and quiet AF

Equipped with an STM (stepping motor) that provides excellent response and controllability.
It can quickly focus on moving subjects in both still images and videos. It is also extremely quiet, making it ideal for piano recitals where noise cannot be made, or for shooting videos where noise should not be allowed.

Excellent video recording performance equivalent to S-Line lenses

By suppressing focus breathing, a phenomenon known as the change in angle of view that occurs when moving the focus from the front to the back or from the back to the front,*1 you can obtain natural-looking images even if you change the focus position after deciding on the composition.
The control ring feels smooth to operate and allows for smooth and natural aperture changes.
In addition, linear operation is possible in MF when combined with a compatible camera.*2 The rotation angle of the control ring required to move the focus position from close to infinity can be set in 12 steps from 90 degrees to 720 degrees in the camera's custom settings.
Regardless of how fast you turn the focus ring, the focus position moves within the set range according to the rotation angle, allowing you to focus as you wish.
*1. Due to the characteristics of the lens, breathing may be noticeable depending on the distance between the subject and the lens.
*2 Compatible cameras: Z 9, Z 8, Z 7II, Z 6II (as of June 21, 2023)

Lens design that takes usability into consideration

The exterior design reflects Nikon's commitment to usability that has been cultivated over many years.
By providing a space between the knurled rubber part of the zoom ring and the linear barrel on the front of the lens, it is made less likely that fingers will get pinched between the zoom ring and the linear barrel.
The zoom lock switch, which locks the zoom ring when the focal length is set to 70mm and the switch is set to [LOCK], is located in a position where it can be operated with the fingers of your left hand while holding the lens firmly.
This prevents the lens from accidentally extending when carrying the camera or storing it in a bag.

Designed for outdoor shooting

The camera is designed to be dust-proof and weather-resistant*, so you can take photos without worrying about a little rain even if the weather suddenly changes.
In addition, the coating on the front of the lens makes it easy to wipe off any dirt that may adhere to it, ensuring high reliability.
*Complete dust and water resistance cannot be guaranteed under all conditions.
