◆High mobility for flexible shooting of various subjects
The Z8 packs the outstanding performance and functions of the Z9 into a compact body, achieving high mobility.
The body is approximately 30% smaller in volume than the Z9, so it doesn't take up much space in a camera bag.It can also be used flexibly for a variety of shooting styles, so you can take it anywhere and fully unleash your creativity.
It is both lightweight and robust, making it comfortable for strenuous mountain climbing, long hours of bird photography, and day-long event photography.
No matter which NIKKOR Z lens is attached, from ultra-wide-angle to super-telephoto, the comfortable grip and robust, well-balanced body fit comfortably in the hand, enabling stable shooting in a variety of scenes, regardless of whether you are shooting still images or videos.
◆Portrait display for more comfortable vertical shooting
When in portrait orientation, the image monitor and EVF can display both captured images and playback images including thumbnails in portrait orientation.
The menus are also displayed vertically, allowing you to smoothly access settings while in portrait mode.
From shooting to playback, you can change settings and check images consistently in the vertical position, making vertical shooting, especially when using a tripod, more comfortable.
Equipped with a counter for bulb/time shooting
During bulb or time shooting, the Z 8 counts up and displays the exposure time on the display panel on top.
There's no need to keep watching the clock.
In addition, the remaining time until the completion of the processing time for [Long exposure noise reduction] and the exposure time (600 to 900 seconds) selected in [Extended shutter speed in M mode] is displayed as a countdown, so you know how long you have to wait until completion, reducing stress when shooting.
◆ "High-Speed Frame Capture +" with a maximum speed of 120 frames per second
With High Speed Frame Capture +, even if you do not set the Pre-Capture function, when set to [C120], you can take high-speed continuous shots at up to 120 frames per second.
You can also select [C30] (approx. 30 frames/sec) or [C60] (approx. 60 frames/sec).
It can be used with all NIKKOR Z lenses and 94 types of NIKKOR F lenses*, supporting creative expression in a variety of shooting scenes.
*Use with FTZ II mount adapter (sold separately).
◆Long-term shooting is possible for up to 125 minutes at 4K UHD 60p and up to 90 minutes at 8K UHD 30p.
The Z8 can shoot 4K UHD 60p and 8K UHD 30p video for extended periods without overheating.
The body is smaller, lighter and more mobile than the Z9, making it ideal for shooting day-long events or long documentaries.
◆ Further improved subject detection and AF performance
The Z8 inherits the Z9's high subject detection and AF performance, while improving on the algorithms developed using deep learning technology to achieve further performance improvements.
It automatically detects and tracks nine types of subjects: people, dogs, cats, birds, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, trains and airplanes.
The Z8 also adds a new dedicated Airplane mode that is better at detecting aircraft.
Combined with high-speed AF calculation and constant, high-speed communication between the camera body and NIKKOR Z lenses, it delivers excellent AF performance in a variety of shooting scenes.
◆ HEIF format allows for smooth gradation with rich tonal expression
HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) preserves rich gradation from highlights to shadows with 10-bit HLG gamma.
By shooting in HEIF, you can capture sunset images that make the most of rich gradation, or city nightscape images with a wide dynamic range that suppresses blown out highlights and crushed shadows.
You can check how the HEIF images you capture will look on an HDR (HLG)-compatible monitor on the Z8's 3000cd/m2 EVF and 900cd/m2 high-brightness image monitor while on location.
It is also possible to create 8K UHD HLG time lapse movies using the camera's time lapse video and interval timer functions.
By connecting the Z8 to an HDR (HLG) compatible monitor or TV with an HDMI 2.1 cable, you can view HEIF images and videos.
◆ "Beautiful skin effect" that depicts the skin of people smoothly
It detects faces and automatically corrects them to smooth out skin tones while maintaining the sharpness of eyes and hair.
This is useful when you want to shorten post-production processing time for portraits, etc.
